What is a Grade A Instructor?
Very few people know that driving instructors
are graded by the DVSA, following a periodic
assessment of a real lesson.
In my most last DVSA Standards Check, I
maintained my Grade A, which puts me in the top
29% of UK Approved Driving Instructors.
Every 3 to 5 years all
Approved Driving
Instructors have to be
assessed by a Senior
DVSA Examiner, to
demonstrate their
continued ability to
remain on the Register of Instructors.
The assessment takes place in a real lesson
with a real pupil, and the Examiner looks at
the quality of the lesson, taking into account
a number of key criteria.
The Instructor will be
awarded a grade - A, B
or Fail. The gradings
look like this:
Grade A - Score of 85%
or more. “A high
standard of
competence”
Grade B - Score of 60% or more. “A sufficient
level of competence”
Fail - Below 60%. “An insufficient level of
instruction”
At my last assessment, I maintained my
Grade A status.
